Get PAID to Shop: Receive Cash Back from Using Your DEBIT Card

This post is from my other half, Greg. He’s very much into investments and financial goals, which are weaknesses of mine. :D

If you were to ask yourself, “How could I make getting great deals even better?” the answer would be: Getting paid to shop! You may think it’s too good to be true, but I’m sure you thought the same thing about all that free toothpaste you now own. ;)

We are serving up a three-part series of easy ways to get paid for doing your routine shopping.

We all know of credit cards that offer a cash back percentage, but sooner or later they are going to hit you with interest. It could be because you are running a balance, an insane late fee if you’re a few days past due, or simply an annual fee.  The net-net is they’re going to get it back and then some.  You’re not getting ahead.

Perkstreet Financial is different.  It offers a debit card that gives 2% cash back on all charges, and after 3 months you’ll get 2% or 1% cash back depending on how much money is in your account.  It is a fully functional FDIC insured online bank with free checking and online bill pay.  I have been using them for over a year without any hassle or ‘ninja fees’. You know, those sneaky little withdraws that have vague descriptions like ‘account maintenance fee’ as if my checking account needed landscaping or something.

The account minimum is $25.00, and they will send you and ATM/Debit card. When you use it on purchases, you will receive 2% cash back towards a variety of gift cards including Mastercard, Best Buy, Ticketmaster, Amazon.com, GAP, Target, and more. Just make sure when you make your purchase you run the transaction like a credit card.  That is, if you use your pin like at an ATM you won’t receive cash back.

Quick Tip: We learned if your card automatically runs as a debit, simply hit the cancel button when it asks for your pin number and it will run as credit! ;)

Deposits are easy too.  You can link your Perkstreet account to an existing bank account, establish direct deposit, or even mail checks using postage paid envelopes sent to by Perkstreet.

I can certainly speak from experience here, that 2% does add up plus you break the nasty cycle of credit cards. You can keep on your budget because you can only spend what you have in the account.  I put myself in the habit of every month moving a fixed amount of money into my Perkstreet account, and when the money was gone, so was my spending for the month. Doing this religiously has dropped a huge amount of credit card debt I’ve compiled through the years.

A few more added perks and pointers:

Each month, Perkstreet gives you 5% cash back on a special category. In the month of May, for instance, you get 5% cash back on any Groupon, Living Social, or Zulily purchases.
It’s like they know me! <– Note from Jasmine ;)

They are able to give so much cash back because they don’t have physical branches. Instead, they focus on super fast phone service, a large amount of ATMs nationwide, and of course rewards their customers.

I’ve had Perkstreet for 2 years now, and have no complaints.
It’s made me a smarter, budget-conscious shopper.

That is awesome! I have never heard of them before and I’m trying to get myself out of credit card debt. I cut up my credit cards but I do miss the rewards/cash back from them, so this is perfect.
